In Finnish mythology, the northern lights (revontulet or fox fires) are created by flying sparks from the tail of the Arctic Fox as it gallops across the snow-covered mountains in winter.  Lapland folklore says the lights are caused by the Arctic fox's tail brushing the shimmering snowflakes into the moonlight.

Animals whose fur turns white in the winter were often considered magical and a symbol of transformation in many cultures. In Native American folklore, the Arctic fox is admired for its resourcefulness and adaptability in the harshest environments. In Inuit culture, this wily white fox is considered a spirit animal, and to dream of the Arctic fox means you will be protected from harm and blessed with good fortune.
