Oranges

Oranges are believed to be a lucky fruit. In the 19th century, it became a tradition to place an orange in the toe of Christmas stockings, which some believe was a representation of the three coins Saint Nicholas gave to the poor maidens via the chimney. Oranges are also said to represent love and fertility, though it is considered good luck for lovers to exchange gifts of oranges to improve their relationship. When a bride carries orange blossoms in her bouquet, she will have good luck. If a man sleeps with a pin-pricked orange tucked in his armpit, it is said that he should offer it to a girl, and should she eat it, the relationship will flourish.
